Frequently Asked Questions

Simply the most scientific and effective self-defence system in the world. Learn to protect yourself, gain confidence and increase your fitness in a safe and friendly environment.

What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a realistic self-defence and combative system developed for the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces. For over 70 years it’s been taught to thousands of frontline personnel all around the world making it the longest standing military CQB (Close Quarters Battle) system in modern history.

Why should I start Krav Maga?

Learning Krav Maga will not only help you to build confidence and boost your fitness, but it will also provide you with the skills necessary to protect yourself and your loved ones from potentially dangerous situations and violent confrontations.

Am I too old or unfit?

Age or fitness aren't an issue as long as you are capable of participating in the class. We have had students in their fifties and sixties who have trained regularly. You'll be given a health assessment before your first class so that we can tailor the training to your level of exertion.

Will I get hurt?

Possibly. We try to keep our training as close to real violence as we safely can and there is an element of risk in all physical training. Bruises are not uncommon but serious injuries are rare.

Is there a long-term commitment?

There's no commitment for a free-trial session. After that, if you do decide to train with us, we only ask that you commit for a minimum of three months training before deciding whether Krav Maga is for you.

Do I need insurance / license?

We require all students to purchase a training license after their free trial. Purchase here

What do I need to wear?

Comfortable exercise clothing suitable for training close combat techniques. Most of our members wear branded t-shirts which can be purchased through the club. Please bring a bottle of water.

Are there competitions?

No. Krav Maga is neither a sport nor a martial art. It is strictly intended for self-defence and many of the techniques are designed to cause injury. This makes it unsuitable for competition.

Is it suitable for women?

Very much so. Krav Maga is ideal for women looking to learn a self-defence system that isn’t based on brute strength, size or physicality. This makes it an ideal system for women.

Can children learn Krav Maga?

Yes. Our kids and teens classes are specifically designed to help kids with their confidence and learn to protect themselves, while also helping them keep fit and make new friends. At Maidstone Krav Maga we cater for all ages and abilities.
